Senior Executive Program in Digital Transformation for the Public Sector

The Australian Government’s vision is to be one of the top 3 digital governments by 2025. A leading digital government delivers its services based on the needs of people and businesses, by harnessing technology, data and new ways of working. It means applying new mindsets, skills, processes and tools to create a culture that is fit for the digital age.

Achieving this vision is heavily dependent on the skills and qualities of our APS leaders to guide digital and cultural transformation and build the digital capability of the APS workforce. To support this, this program provides senior executive service (SES) leaders with exposure to new strategies, insights and approaches for leading in the digital age.

Expert facilitators from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and AWS Institute will share world-class academic knowledge and real industry experience to demonstrate how to:

• leverage current digital technologies (such as cloud-based solutions)
• identify, assess and implement opportunities for digital transformation
• apply new tools and skills to accelerate decision-making
• practice advanced skills in agile strategising and ideation.

This face-to-face program will be limited to 30 participants and is being delivered by the Digital Profession at no cost to individual participants or their agency.

Chris Fechner - Head of the APS Digital Profession and CEO of DTA
Chris is the CEO of the DTA and the Head of the APS Digital Profession. Chris has extensive experience in state government services, focusing on large scale digital and ICT reform and transformation programs as well as implementing contemporary investment, contestability, and governance frameworks. 

Professor Michael Rosemann - Centre for Future Enterprise, QUT
Michael is the Director of the Centre for Future Enterprise and a Professor for Innovation Systems at the QUT Business School. His main areas of research are corporate innovation (eco)systems, revenue resilience, process management and trust management. His work is focused on creating compelling future worlds with today’s possibilities that make current practices obsolete.

Professor Kevin DeSouza - Centre for Future Enterprise, QUT
Kevin is Professor of Business, Technology and Strategy in the School of Management at the QUT Business School. He is a non-resident Senior Fellow in the Governance Studies Program at the Brookings Institution. He has held tenured faculty appointments at the University of Washington, Virginia Tech and Arizona State University.

Professor Marek Kowalkiewicz - Director, Centre of Digital Economy, QUT
Marek is an academic and industry leader with extensive experience in conducting research, co-innovating with industry and university partners, and delivering innovative products to the market. Currently, as founding director of Centre for the Digital Economy, he leads QUT’s research agenda to inform and influence a robust digital economy in Australia.

Choy Peng Wu - Director of Government Transformation, AWS APJ/ASEAN
Before AWS, Ms Choy Peng spent 20 years in the Singapore Public Sector, holding various appointments including Chief Information Officer of the Ministry of Education (MOE), Singapore Government’s Chief Information Officer, and Deputy Chief Executive (Industry) of the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA). Choy Peng is on the boards of the National University Health System (NUHS), Integrated Health Information Systems (IHIS) and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).

Andrew Hodges - Senior Security Advisor, AWS
Andrew has held many roles spanning his 35-plus years in the ICT industry, with a consistent theme being his passion for technology that drives engagements in the public sector. These include domains such as cloud, eGovernment, innovation, and citizen services in both the mature and emerging markets across Asia, and in all levels of government. In the information security domain, and prior to AWS, Andrew was a Chief Information Security Officer and Privacy Officer. He is well credentialed with certifications in ethical hacking, penetration testing, forensics encryption technologies, and recently joined a small but growing group who have achieved the ANSI accredited Certified Chief Information Security Officer. He is currently the Senior Security Advisor in AWS World Wide Public Sector for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ).

Pia Andrews - Strategic Adviser to the Public Sector, AWS
Pia is an open government, digital transformation and data geek who has been trying to make the world a better place for 20 years. She usually works within the (public sector) machine to transform public services, policies and culture through greater transparency, democratic engagement, citizen-centric design, open data, emerging technologies and real, pragmatic actual innovation in the public sector and beyond. Pia is currently taking something of a public sector sabbatical, working as a Strategic Advisor to the Public Sector in AWS. She is in a newly formed team made up of experienced public servants who provide futures-oriented policy and outcomes focused advice, support, exploration and experimentation, to agencies and departments across Australia, New Zealand and Oceania.

Sara Goldsworthy - Senior Manager, Public Policy ANZ, AWS
Sara is a senior public policy leader with a passion for tackling the big issues at the intersection of national security, technology, economic prosperity and international relations. Sara has held senior executive positions in a range of departments including the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Office of National Intelligence, Attorney-General's Department and the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources. Sara now leads federal public policy engagement at Amazon Web Services. Throughout her distinguished public service career she led multidisciplinary teams through crises, government reform, and major event delivery at the commonwealth and state level.
